GAMSAT


The Graduate Medical School Admissions Test (GAMSAT) has been developed by the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER).

   •The GAMSAT test is to be held on September 17th 2010.
   •Registrations will close the August 13th.


The test is being used by St George's University of London, Nottingham Medical School, Peninsula Medical School, the Clinical School at University of Wales, Swansea and Keele University. It is the only tool that St George's and Nottingham use to assess academic performance for entry onto their fast track medical courses. Peninsula Medical School use GAMSAT to assess the academic aptitude of prospective applicants who are not school leavers, for their 5-year MBBS programme. The Clinical School at University of Wales, Swansea uses GAMSAT as an additional tool to test academic performance for entry into its Graduate Entry Programme.

GAMSAT is divided into three sections, with a total test time of 5 1/2 hours designed to assess performance in the areas of:
1. Reasoning in the Humanities and Social Sciences (MCQ)
2. Written Communication (2x30 minute essays)
3. Reasoning in Biological and Physical Sciences (MCQ)
(Chemistry 40%, Biology 40% and Physics 20%)

Candidates must pass each section in addition to having an overall competitive score.

MSAT


MSAT will no longer be used in the UK. Warwick, Queens and Kings graduate courses will now use the UKCAT exam.


BMAT


The BioMedical Admissions Test (BMAT), held on 3rd November 2010, is being used by Cambridge, Imperial, Oxford and University College London undergraduate medicine courses, and Cambridge graduate entry for those who do not meet the pre-medical requirements. It is also used by Cambridge, Imperial, Oxford, UCL and Royal Veterinary College for some of their other courses.

BMAT consists of three discrete components, with a total test time of 2 hours designed to assess performance in the areas of:

1. Aptitude and skills (MCQ)
2. Scientific knowledge and Application (MCQ)
3. Written Task (1 essay)

UKCAT


Registration will be open from 4 May 2010 - 27 September 2010
The testing window will be from 6 July 2010 - 8 October 2010

Please note that some schools require you to have taken the test before you submit your application.

Schools requiring UKCAT for their undergraduate medicine degrees : Aberdeen, Barts (Queen Mary's), Brighton and Sussex, Cardiff, Dundee, Durham, East Anglia, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Hull , York, Keele, King's, Leeds, Leicester, Manchester, Newcastle, Nottingham, Peninsula, Sheffield, Southampton, St Andrews, St George's and Queen's (Belfast)

Schools requiring UKCAT for their graduate medicine degrees : Barts (Queen Mary's), Imperial, Kings, Leicester, Newcastle, Oxford and Warwick

UKCAT will consist of five subtests of MCQs:
   • Verbal reasoning - assesses candidates' ability to think logically about written information and to arrive at a reasoned conclusion
   • Quantitative reasoning - assesses candidates' ability to solve numerical problems
   • Abstract reasoning - assesses candidates' ability to infer relationships from information by convergent and divergent thinking
   • Decision analysis - assesses candidates' ability to deal with various forms of information, to infer relationships, to make informed judgements, and to decide on an appropriate response, in situations of complexity and ambiguity.
   • Non-cognitive analysis - identifies the attributes and characteristics of robustness, empathy and integrity that may contribute to successful health professional practice.
